§ 05FAQ

FAQ

How is pseudonymisation different from anonymisation?

Anonymisation is irreversible — once done, nobody, including you, can recover the removed data, and the document stops being personal data under the GDPR. Lexedit-Privacy replaces the data with placeholders and keeps the mapping, so you can always get back to the original. That is pseudonymisation under Art. 4(5) GDPR: the document still contains personal data and remains in scope of the GDPR, but the risk of exposing it to AI tools or outside the firm drops sharply. That is why we call it pseudonymisation rather than anonymisation.

Are documents sent to the server?

No. Documents are processed locally on your device. Neither uploaded files nor pasted text leave your environment or reach any server.

Does Lexedit-Privacy work offline?

Yes. Pseudonymisation also works without an internet connection in the browser version once the page is loaded, including via the Chrome extension.

Which document types can I pseudonymise?

Lexedit-Privacy supports manually pasted text, DOCX files, PDFs, and images (e.g., document scans). The exact scope may depend on the app version.

Which data can be pseudonymised?

You can pseudonymise names, addresses, national ID numbers, tax IDs, phone numbers, email addresses, bank accounts, company data, case identifiers, and more.

Can I view the original text after pseudonymisation?

Yes. Switch between the original and pseudonymised views at any time to keep full control over the result.

Is pseudonymisation fully automatic?

Data detection is automatic, but you decide on the final output — review the results and confirm they meet your requirements.
